Big band jazz lovers have two opportunities to get into the swing this week with events hosted by the Mountlake Terrace High School Music Department on Thursday and Saturday.

On Thursday, Oct. 24, the MTHS Jazz 1 and Jazz 2 bands perform in a free concert in the high school theater beginning at 7 p.m. Joining the bands will be nationally-recognized composer, conductor, and saxophonist Steve Owen.

Then on Saturday, Oct. 26, MTHS hosts the Edmonds Jazz Symposium beginning at 8 a.m. Twenty-two middle and high school bands are scheduled to perform throughout the morning and early afternoon; each band will also have receive analysis and teaching from four clinicians at the event: Owens, Todd Mahaffey, Steve Korn and Dawn Clement. The symposium is open to the public; admission is free.

Mountlake Terrace High School is located at 21801-44th Ave. W.
