Snohomish County Fire District 1 will now have access to pet oxygen masks at emergency scenes thanks to a donation from Helping Hands Veterinary Clinic in Lynnwood.

The clinic donated four oxygen masks that can be used to treat rescued animals for smoke inhalation. “We know how important pets are to their owners. In the past, we’ve had to improvise and use oxygen masks designed for people to treat pets at fire scenes,” said Assistant Chief Mark Correira. “These new pet masks have a better fit and will make it easier for us to more effectively administer oxygen to rescued animals. We’re grateful to Helping Hands for donating the masks to make this possible.”

The donated masks come in two sizes: one to accommodate large dogs and another for cats, smaller dogs and other small animals. The donated pet masks will be carried on two command units that respond to most major emergencies throughout Fire District 1’s 45-square-mile service area including Brier, Edmonds, Mountlake Terrace, Woodway and unincorporated communities in south Snohomish County.
