The Mountlake Terrace Hawks wrestling and girls basketball teams faced their counterparts from Shorewood High School Friday night, coming away with very different outcomes.

On the mat, the Hawk wrestling team soundly defeated the Shorewood T-Birds 48-21 in a Wesco League South Conference dual meet Friday night in Shoreline.

Terrace lost just four individual matches in the dual meet, with two of those defeats by forfeit. Four of the seven Hawk individual wins were by pinfall.

On the basketball court, the young Lady Hawks squad was overwhelmed by an experienced girls’ squad from Shorewood 71-21 in Wesco League action played at Mountlake Terrace High School.

Of the nine girls on the T-Birds’ roster, seven are returnees from last year’s varsity squad.

Shorewood was led in scoring by the 16 points of junior Jalyn Hizey; T-Bird Taryn Shelley scored 12 points while Davi Borromeo added 10 points. Terrace was paced by the 12 points of sophomore Jazz Zenk, the only Hawk in double figure scoring.

The Lady Hawks will next host the defending 3A state champion Lynnwood Royals on Wednesday, Jan. 20, at Mountlake Terrace High School. Tip-off is slated for 7:15 p.m.
