Hawks start season with 7-5 baseball win over Royals

Hawks logo-2The Mountlake Terrace Hawks jumped all over Lynnwood early on their way to a 7-5 win in their first game of their 2013 baseball season on Wednesday. Terrace scored all their runs in the first three innings, including four in the first, then did just enough to hold on and get the victory.

Dominic DeMiero pitched three innings and earned the victory for the Hawks; Den Reijonen picked up the save. Jason Shevenko went 2-3 at the plate, with a double and an RBI for Terrace.

The Hawks return to action on Friday with a game at Mountlake Terrace High School against Cascade, one of the favorites to take the Wesco 4A South title. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.

In other MTHS sports news, the girls tennis team suffered its second rainout in two days as the Wednesday home match-up with Everett was moved to Thursday due to the wet conditions.

The postponement of Wednesday’s tennis match now makes for a busy Thursday for Hawk athletes. In addition to tennis, the girls softball team will play a road game at Marysville-Pilchuck starting at 4 p.m. The boys and girls track squads are scheduled to take part in the Juanita Jamboree in Kirkland beginning at 4 p.m.
