Not that the Mountlake Terrace High School football team will need any more inspiration going into their Friday, Oct. 11 matchup with Meadowdale — after all, the teams are Wesco League 3A South rivals, Terrace lost a heartbreaker to the Mavericks last year 17-14, and the Hawks believe they can still qualify for postseason play if they win their remaining regular season games this year. But the team may still get an extra boost before Friday’s game from an unlikely source, a player that hasn’t played a down this season.

Senior Devante Downs, out this season with an ACL tear, is scheduled to receive the game jersey he would have worn at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl at a press conference prior to Friday’s game, in Mountlake Terrace.

After originally been selected to play, Downs had to pull out of the Jan. 4, 2014 game for top high school seniors from around the country due to his injury; he will, though, be presented with his game jersey and invited to participate in all the other activities associated with the game in San Antonio.

The Hawks take on Meadowdale at Edmonds Stadium on Friday; kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. The game can be seen live on the Sound Live Sports Network on MLTnews.com, with pre-game beginning at approximately 7:45 p.m.

In Hawk sports action on Wednesday, the boys tennis team couldn’t hang with a Meadowdale squad that has lost only two matches this season, going down to the Mavericks 7-0. Terrace will face the winless Marysville Pilchuck Tomahawks on Thursday at Mountlake Terrace High School, weather permitting.
