Hawks sports round-up for Tuesday: volleyball, soccer continue winning ways

MTHS logo 2The Mountlake Terrace Hawks will most likely hold on to their No. 10 spot in the Seattle Times 3A state high school volleyball rankings this week after Tuesday’s 3-1 victory over Shorewood. The Hawks improved their overall season record to 9-4 and stand atop the Wesco 3A standings with a 6-1 league mark, a half-game ahead of the Meadowdale Mavericks.

Terrace closes out the regular season with two home matches next week; on Monday, Oct. 28 the Hawks face Glacier Peak, while on Wednesday, Oct. 30 they will match up against Shorecrest. Both matches begin at 7 p.m.  The Monday match will be broadcast live on the Sound Live Sports Network via MLTnews.co

In a back-and-forth soccer match at foggy Glacier Peak High School, the MTHS Hawks used a second half goal by Paige Johnson to ultimately prevail over the Grizzlies 3-2.

After scoring the opening goal of the match, Terrace fell behind 2-1 on a pair of goals by Glacier Peak’s Jenna McLean. The Hawks’ Lily Hart scored her second goal of the match late in the first half to tie the score at 2-2 before Terrace was able to grab the win with its strong second half performance.

The Hawks host Wesco 3A South conference leader Shorecrest on Thursday, Oct. 24 at Lynnwood High School; first kick is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

MTHS Girls Swimming: Everett 103 — Mountlake Terrace 65
Mountlake Terrace picked up a win in the 400 Freestyle Relay with Hawks Hailee Malin, Annika Matthews, Tori Loughe and Lauren Krienke; Malin also grabbed first place in the 200 freestyle while Matthews won the 50 freestyle.
