Hawks sports round-up: Girls track team beats Shorewood, Everett

MTHSHawks logoOn a blistery and wet afternoon at Shoreline Stadium, the Mountlake Terrace High School girls track teams breezed to impressive wins over Shorewood and Everett while the MTHS boys split with their two Wesco League rivals on Thursday.

The Hawks captured a score of individual-event victories: In boys competition Greg Bowman won both the 400 meters and the long jump, Brett Potter was a double winner in the shot put and the discus, Yonnas Tewolde took the top spot in the triple jump, and Nathan Sparks placed first in the 800 meters.

On the girls side, Terrace had multiple double-event winners: McKenna Hunt took the top spot in both the 100 meter hurdles and the 300 meter hurdles, Hailee Malins won both the shot put and the discus, Barbara Biney captured the 100 meters and the long jump, and Chinne Okoronkwo grabbed wins in both the pole vault and the triple jump. Other Hawk victors were Brigitt Harmon in the 200 meters, Jessica Ong in the 800 meters, Katherine Gustafson in the 1600 meters, Katherine Walter in the 3200 meters and Alisha Clingan in the javelin.

In other MTHS sports, both the girls tennis and softball teams were rained out. The girls tennis match against Stanwood was rescheduled for Wednesday, April 23, while the softball match-up between Terrace and Shorewood has been postponed to a date to be determined.
