After playing almost exclusively singles matches all season, Mountlake Terrace Hawks Nicki Bouche and Tina Liu have been teamed up to play doubles in the postseason. The move has paid off as the pair won the doubles title at the 3A District 1 Championships that finished up on Wednesday.

Bouche and Liu were victorious over Shorewood’s Daniella Brengelmann and Francesca O’Malley in the championship match 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. Bouche and Liu will now head to the WIAA 3A Boys & Girls Tennis Championships to be held at Kamiakin High School and Tri-City Court Club in Kennewick May 24-25. All girls doubles’ matches will be held at Kamiakin beginning at 8:30 a.m. on May 24 except for the noon final on May 25, which will be at the Tri-City Court Club.

For Bouche, this will be her second trip to the state championships in as many years. She teamed up with Gillian Braden-Armstrong last year as a freshman to finish fourth in the state doubles competition. Liu is making her first the trip to state this season as she is just a freshman.
