Hawks finish fourth in Bonney Lake wresting tournament

The Mountlake Terrace High School wrestling team picked up a fourth place finish at the 12-team Bonney Lake Classic wrestling tournament over the weekend, with two Hawks taking home first place trophies in their weight class.

Graham Kapowsin place first in team points at the event, followed by host Bonney Lake, Kentridge, and MTHS.

Terrace’s Syd Springberg captured the 170-pound weight class title with a pin over Hen Yong of Thomas Jefferson in the championship match. Brett Potter placed first in the 195-pound class with a 14-5 victory over top-seeded Jonnie Estrade of Eastlake.

Other Hawks who had good outings at the tournament were Taron Castleton, who finished second in the 138-pound class, Daniel Oliferovskiy grabbing fourth place in the 152-pound class, Taylor Murgallis finishing fifth in the 285-pound class, Chaplyn Mack earning sixth place in the 145-pound class, and David Marrs snatching seventh place in the 182-pound class.

The Hawks begin Wesco League dual meet action on Thursday, Jan. 9, with a match up against the Shorecrest Scots beginning at 7 p.m. at Mountlake Terrace High School.
