The Mountlake Terrace Hawks picked up 14 first-place finishes at a three-team track meet Thursday at Quil Ceda Stadium in Marysville. Shining brightest was freshman Chinne Okoronkwo, who established another new school record in the girls triple jump.

The Terrace boys’ squad recorded two team victories in the meet, over Oak Harbor 73-72, and over Marysville-Pilchuck 99-46. The Hawk girls’ squad came up short in team scoring, losing to Oak Harbor 84-62, and falling to Marysville-Pilchuck 76-70.

Okoronkwo’s 39-0 triple jump on Thursday not only topped the previous school record she had set earlier this month, but is the top effort in the event among all girls in the state so far this season. Her triple jump mark won her the event; she also grabbed first place in the long jump and the pole vault Thursday.

Chinne’s brother, Gifton, won the boy’s triple jump with a mark of 44-7. In other field events, Hawk Daniel Au won the pole vault with an effort of 11; Beau Kennedy placed first in the javelin with a throw of 158-7; and Hailee Mains outdistanced her competitors in the girls discus at 86-6.

Terrace’s McKenna Hunt brought home two wins on Thursday, placing first in both the girls 100 meter hurdles and the 300 meter hurdles. On the boys’ side, Hawk Jack Pearce won the 3200 meters, Duane Dahl placed first in the 200 meters, and Quinnell Mason outran the field in the 100 meters.

Terrace also won both of the boys relay events: the team of Kennedy, Mason, Dahl and Joshua Kim just beat out the team from Marysville-Pilchuck to win the 4×100 relay, while Mason, Dahl, Yohans Tewolde and Conrad Bratz outran the field in the 4×400 relay.

The boys’ team will next head to Renton’s Memorial Stadium for the Arnie Young Invitational on Saturday, Apr. 6. The meet begins at 10:30 a.m. The girls will next face Shorewood and Everett on Thursday, Apr. 11, at Shoreline Stadium; start time is set for 3:30 p.m.
