Mountlake Terrace High School junior Devante Downs has been nominated to play in the 2014 U.S. Army All-American Bowl, a national high school all-star football game to be played the first weekend in January, 2014, at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. The game is slated to be broadcast live on NBC television.
Downs is one of 400 high schoolers to be nominated for the all-star game, but one of only three in Washington state to be selected. Final rosters for the game will be announced in the late fall.
Downs, entering his senior year this fall, is considered one of the top recruits at the running back position in Washington; a strong 2013 season and a selection to play in San Antonio would certainly cause his stock to rise. “The Army All-American Bowl is the premier event in football recruiting,” said Shannon Terry, Founder and CEO of 247Sports, one of the sponsors for the January event.
As a junior Downs rushed for 1,266 yards and 23 touchdowns in ten games for the 2012 Hawk football team, a squad that went 5-5 and played one game in the postseason. Downs also led the team on defense with six solo sacks as a linebacker. He was named to both the 3A Wesco South All-League Offensive and Defensive Teams last season.
Mountlake Terrace High School Athletic Director Kim Stewart expects there to be added attention on Downs during his senior season, with more than the usual number of college and media representatives attending Terrace football games this fall. Although Downs has indicated a preference to attending the University of Washington beginning in September, 2014, he is expected to hold off on signing any official letter of intent until next February.
Spring practices for the 2013 Hawk football squad begin on May 28.

What a Honor, best of Luck!
Want to point out that Devante was not interviewed for this article. Also he’s not just nominated for the All American game but he’s already been selected to play. And lastly Devante hasn’t made any school a preference at this time. He’s still waiting to see what other offers are coming and will make his decision by or during the All American game January 4th in San Antonio.
