Taking advantage of five Shorecrest errors, the Mountlake Terrace Hawks cruised to a 10-1 baseball victory over the Scots at Shorecrest High School on Tuesday.
The Hawks scored five runs in the top of the first inning, giving starting pitcher Dominic DeMiero plenty of cushion before the Terrace junior even stepped on to the mound. The big left-hander struck out eight in six-plus innings of work before teammate Connor Clausen appeared in relief to finish the game.
With the Terrace win and Meadowdale’s 2-1 defeat to Shorewood on Tuesday, the Hawks moved into a third-place tie in the Wesco 3A South Conference with the Mavericks. Both teams have a 6-7 league record; the Hawks are now 8-8 overall.
Game two of the MTHS-Shorecrest three-game series is set for Wednesday, April 24, at Mountlake Terrace High School; first pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
MT Hawks 5 0 0 2 0 1 2 — 10 7 0
SC Scots 0 0 0 0 0 0 1 — 1 5 5
Winning pitcher: Dominic DeMiero (MTHS)
Losing pitcher: Nik Hendricks (SCHS)
