Mountlake Terrace’s Chinne Okoronkwo and Hailee Malins both had strong finishes Saturday at the University of Washington High School Invitational Indoor Track and Field meet at the university’s Dempsey Indoor Arena.
Okoronkwo won the women’s triple jump event with a mark of 11.93 meters and placed 11th out of 66 participants in the women’s 60 meter dash with a time of 8.10 seconds.
Malins, with an all-time personal best throw of 11.65 meters, placed seventh out of 24 competitors in the women’s shot put. Malins competed in the event while still recovering from a broken finger suffered last month as a member of the Mountlake Terrace High School wrestling team.
The invitational meet drew high school participants from throughout the West Coast and from as far away as Alaska.
