Hawk sports round-up: Girls soccer stays undefeated, boys tennis loses to Shorewood

The Mountlake Terrace Hawks remained undefeated for the year after fighting off a tough Everett Seagulls squad 2-1 Thursday night on the soccer pitch at Lincoln Field in Everett.

The Hawks had to come from behind for the win as Everett scored first in the match, the opener of Wesco League play for both teams. Terrace got the equalizing goal before halftime, then scored the only goal in the second half to secure the victory.

Terrace will try to keep its winning streak alive on Saturday, Sept. 17, as they travel to Stanwood for a 1 p.m. match-up with the 3-1-0 Spartans.

In other MTHS sports action on Thursday, the Hawk boys and girls cross country teams opened their 2016 season with solid outings in Marysville. The girls grabbed second place among the four squads competing; the boys finished third in their field of four teams.

The Terrace boys tennis team dropped their first match of the year 4-3 to the undefeated Shorewood T-Birds; the Hawks lost the No. 3 doubles’ match by forfeit when they couldn’t field a pair of players for the contest due to illness among team members.

The Hawk volleyball team earned its second triumph of the season, a 3-1 win over the visiting Everett Seagulls. The Hawks are now above the .500 mark at 2-1 after going winless last year.

The Terrace girls swim team slipped past the Lynnwood Royals 80-74 Thursday at the Lynnwood Pool.
