If Thursday’s performances at the Juanita Jamboree are any indication, the Mountlake Terrace Hawk track teams will be a force to contend with this season. Hawk athletes competed strong at the five-team meet, walking away with wins in many of the events.
Senior Beau Kennedy won the javelin with a toss of 162-feet, 10 inches, almost a foot better than the second place finisher. Kennedy qualified for the state meet last year in the event.
In the jumping events, senior Tye Esparza won the high jump with a mark of 5 feet, 8 inches; senior Anfernee Calloway placed first in the long jump with a leap of 20 feet, 6 inches; and senior Gifton Okoronkwo won the triple jump at 41-feet,11.25rae.
In the 60 meter dash, senior Mason Stone placed first with a time of 7.00. On the other end of the scale, the 2000 meter run was won by junior Jack Pearce with a time of 6:05:80.
The girls had a good outing at Kirkland also, with Hawks Ella Schroth, Katherine Walter, Morgan Arbuckle, Christina Wimmer and Courtney Hammer posting good finishes in their events.
