The City of Mountlake Terrace has $22,500 in lodging tax funds available to qualified applicants for projects and events that promote tourism in the city in 2013.
Lodging tax or tourism promotion funds come from the taxes collected from the Studio 6 Hotel located in Mountlake Terrace. The city’s Lodging Tax Advisory Committee reviews applications and makes recommendations to the City Council.
Lodging tax funds must be used for marketing or operation of special events and festivals designed to attract tourists or to acquire or operate tourism-related facilities. The program or event should have the potential to increase overnight visits to the city’s hotel and/or create an economic or other community benefit. In past years these funds have helped support events such as Tour de Terrace, Arts of the Terrace, and the Mountlake Terrace Farmers Market.
Applications for lodging tax funds are available by contacting Community Relations Director Virginia Olsen at 425-744-6206, or by email at cityhall@ci.mlt.wa.us. Applications can be downloaded from the city’s website. Application materials must be received by 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 2. The city’s Lodging Tax Advisory Committee will then review the applications and make a recommendation, and the City Council will review and allocate the funding.
