What Is Happening in the Sky?

While looking at the Google searches that brought people to MLTnews.com today, one in particular stood out. It stood out because I had the same question last night. The search was for “what is happening in sky mountlake terrace.” Fortuntaely, the searcher made it to MLTnews.com, but unfortunately they did not find their answer.

Sometime between 9 and 10 PM last night I kept seeing flashes out of the corner of my eye through our window. I live east of 56th in the Town Center neighborhood and the flashes were coming from the west. Though it wasn’t that stormy in our neighborhood I just assumed it was lightning somewhere out to the west.

Anyone see the flashes? Did you get a better look and see if they were, in fact, just lightning. The only other thing I can think of is it may have been a transformer, but then again I didn’t hear any reports of power outages.

  1. I think we got your thunder in Renton. I didn't see ANY lightning but I heard this LOUD boom that made me wonder if we weren't getting broken into or bombed or something. I didn't see anything so my conclusion was thunder.

  2. i was driving through brier and saw a flash also – i rolled down my window to listen for thunder, but nothing…

  3. I was in Trader Joes's parking lot when I saw the flashes. I do believe it was just lightning but I did not hear any thunder. It was really weird.

  5. definitly lightning. There was one hellova storm cell just north of downtown Seattle and moving out into the Puget Sound. I got caught in the quick sheet of rain around Mercer Street ~9:20pm. I got home off of 56th Ave and saw flashes to the southwest, which I believe is where the storm was drifting. I looked at the radar on weather.com and saw the cell. It actually had red in the center showing the power of that one. I think the sound of the lightning just faded before it got to us?
