A new Youth Marimba Workshop will be starting in October.
The program is designed for youth ages 6-17+ and no experience is necessary. All instruments are provided. There are classes for various ages and abilities, and the after school and evening group percussion classes will be held at Meadowdale Elementary School beginning in October. Learning is 100 percent active and hands-on.
Teresa Catford, a music teacher in the Edmonds School District, is the instructor. Catford began running an after-school percussion performance program in 2004. It has since grown and has become so successful that there’s not been enough room to accommodate the many students who would like to participate as well as those who would like to keep playing after they graduate elementary school. So Catford decided to buy her own set of instruments and start a community marimba band program.
