Happening nearby: Marine recruiters help apprehend robbery suspect at Alderwood Mall Tuesday

A suspect who attempted to rob at 60-year-old woman at the Alderwood Mall Tuesday was arrested by the Lynnwood Police after he was detained by three United States Marine Corps recruiters.

At 4:56 p.m., Lynnwood Officers responded to an attempted robbery that occurred in the parking lot of the mall at 3000 184th St. SW., Lynnwood.

The woman was getting into her vehicle in the parking lot when she was approached by two suspects who told her that they were robbing her and one of them said that they had a firearm. No firearm was seen. The victim shoved the suspects back and the two suspects ran away. The victim followed them in her vehicle while they were running through the parking lot.

Three United States Marine Corps recruiters, who were at the recruiting office, observed the suspects running and the female following them and were able to capture one of the two suspects, detaining him until Lynnwood Police arrived.

The suspect was positively identified by the victim as being involved in the attempted robbery. That suspect is an 18-year old man from Everett. The suspect was in possession of a baseball bat which was concealed in his pants.

Lynnwood Police conducted a K-9 track for the second suspect, described as an 18-20 year old male, but he was not located.

The arrested suspect was transported to the Lynnwood Jail and will be booked at the Snohomish County Jail for Attempted Robbery.

Lynnwood Detectives are continuing the investigation.
