One man was taken to Swedish Edmonds for treatment of smoke inhalation Sunday following a house fire in the 18500 block of 85th Avenue West in Edmonds.

Snohomish County Fire District 1 and Lynnwood Fire Department crews were called to the fire at 12:05 p.m. The man who suffered smoke inhalation had been trying to put out the fire with a garden hose, Snohomish County Fire District 1 spokeswoman Leslie Hynessaid. He was expected to be released from the hospital Sunday afternoon.

The cause of the fire is not yet known, she said.

The back of the house was in flames when firefighters arrived, Hynes said. Damage was mainly limited to the north end of the house in the attic, but the house is uninhabitable. The couple living in the house has family in the area that they can stay with, she said.
