Happening nearby: Edmonds woman killed in two-car accident in Lynnwood

An Edmonds woman was killed in a two-car accident at about 4:30 p.m., Saturday in Lynnwood.

The woman, who was in her 40s, was a passenger in one of the vehicles, according to Lynnwood Police.

The collision happened in the 18200 block of 36th Ave. W. A car driven by a woman in her 40s turned left from northbound 36th Ave. W. across the southbound lanes to enter an apartment complex parking lot. That vehicle was struck by a car traveling southbound on 36th Ave. W., which was driven by a Lynnwood man in his 20s.

The southbound vehicle struck the passenger side of the turning vehicle ejecting the front seat passenger of the turning vehicle, who died at the scene. The driver of the turning vehicle was transported to the hospital with what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the southbound vehicle was treated at the scene by Lynnwood Fire Department personnel.

Traffic investigators are at the scene and will have 36th Ave. W. closed between 184th St. SW. and Maple Road for several hours. Investigators will work to determine if alcohol, drugs or speed was a factor. That analysis may take several weeks. No one is in custody at this time.

The Snohomish County Medical Examiners Office is at the scene and will work with police to notify the next of kin.
