A 65-year-old Edmonds woman suspected of driving while intoxicated was taken to Swedish Edmonds hospital for evaluation after the Mercedes she was driving hit a Cadillac Escalade head-on in front of Portofino restaurant in the 1300 block of Olympic View Drive just before 8 p.m. Tuesday night. The Escalade driver, a 53-year-old Edmonds man, was unhurt, police said.

According to Edmonds police spokesman Sgt. Shane Hawley, police received reports that the Mercedes driver had been “hitting parked cars or coming close to hitting them” as she was headed north from the intersection of 9th Avenue and Main Street. The woman had turned from Puget Drive onto Olympic View Drive when she crossed the center line, hitting the Escalade head-on, and airbags in both vehicles deployed, he said.
Police have not confirmed that any vehicles were actually hit, Hawley said.
The condition of the Mercedes driver was uncertain, so she was taken to Swedish Edmonds for evaluation, Hawley said. Olympic View Drive was closed for a brief period of time until the accident scene was cleared.
