Mountlake Terrace to honor former wrestling star John Batts

Our news partner the Seattle Times reports that Mountlake Terrace High School will honor former wrestling star John Batts on January 13:

John Batts, who was Mountlake Terrace’s first state wrestling champion back in 1975, will become the 24th member of the school’s Athletics Hall of Fame when he is inducted on Jan. 13 as part of the festivities during the Hawks’ home dual match with Glacier Peak.

Batts was a three-time state placer, winning the 4A title in what was then the “unlimited” weight classification. He is a former assistant wrestling coach for Mountlake Terrace and currently serves as a firefighter.
