Girl Scouts conducting weekend food drive at Roger’s Market

Here’s a Friday afternoon update on this weekend’s food drive, as provided by Karin Rice:

This is the 14th year this event has been sponsored on the weekend prior to Thanksgiving by Mountlake Terrace-based Girl Scout Troop 41923. Each troop members has a two-hour shift “so all the girls get a chance to help the community,” Rice said.

All food is donated to the Concerned For Neighbors Food Bank in Mountlake Terrace. Last year the Girl Scouts collected over 2,000 pounds of food.  The girls take any cash donations they receive purchase the items at Roger’s Market that are not normally donated, like feminine products and personal hygiene items.

Once the food drive is over, some of the girls sort and categorize the food and then deliver it to the food bank.
