Future in MLT uncertain after CORT acquires AA Party Rentals

AA partyThe recent acquisition of Mountlake Terrace-based AA Party Rentals by CORT. a transition services and furniture company, will likely mean that the 40-year-old rental supplies firm will move out of the city sometime after 2014.

CORT announced they had acquired AA Party Rentals, 6404-216th St. S.W., late last week. AA Party Rentals co-owner Nancy Shaw said the business’ name and location will remain the same this year, but changes will come in 2015.

AA Party Rentals currently operates out of a 30,000 square-foot warehouse in northeast Mountlake Terrace, but CORT wants to triple its size. “We’ll need six acres, or about 100,000 square feet,” Shaw said. She is hoping space can be found in Mountlake Terrace where the company can locate its showroom, offices and warehouse, but speculates the move will to be some other city.

“We’re hoping not to move too far because all of our employees are from the north end, and our employees are our biggest asset,” Shaw explained.

One plan already announced by CORT is that AA Party Rentals will merge with ABC Special Event Rentals of Mukilteo. CORT acquired the Mukilteo company in January 2011.
