While their high school sports careers are over, a number of former MTHS Hawks from the class of 2012 will still be competing locally as they have committed to area community colleges for the upcoming school year.
Five members of the 2012 baseball team that finished with a record of 14-9 and a berth in the WIAA 3A State Tournament have signed letters of intent to play at community colleges in the Puget Sound region. Joshua Fitch and Christopher Hall will be attending Shoreline CC together; Alex Hatch will be at Bellevue College, Austin Johnson has committed to Tacoma CC, and J.R. Gaddy is heading to Bremerton to attend Olympic College.
Ryan Swanstrom, a member of the 2011-2012 Hawk basketball team that ended its season at 23-3, with Wesco League and Northwest District championships and a WIAA 3A State Tournament berth, will be attending Highline Community College in Des Moines starting in September.
Two Hawk soccer players, Bryce Greenleaf and Eric Schunke, will be joining the squad of Edmonds Community College this fall.
Everett Community College is the destination for two more former Hawks. Nina Penner, a WIAA 3A State Track Meet qualifier in 2012, will be running for Everett CC; Melynda Ward, a member of the 2012 Hawk softball squad that finished with a record of 15-9 and a Northwest 3A District berth, will also be attending Everett CC.
