The Forest Crest Athletic Club in Mountlake Terrace is hosting Ace Out Hunger, a food drive and afternoon of free tennis activities on Saturday, Nov. 16, from 3-6 p.m.

“The goal of Ace Out Hunger is to use tennis events to raise canned food for the community,” said event organizer Josh Basha, Director of Tennis at Forest Crest. “We host free beginner lessons for players of all ages, free cardio tennis for players over the age of 12, and beat the pro challenge points.”

While the event is free of charge, Basha is asking participants to bring three cans of food; all donations will go to two area food distribution organizations, Hope Link and the North Help Line Food Bank.

This is the second Ace Out Hunger event that Basha has organized and has hopes of taking the idea nationwide. “Our long-term goal is to host an event in every state over the next 15 to 20 years,” he explained. “We will offer four events a year, with one of the events always being in the Seattle area.”

Before joining the staff at Forest Crest earlier this year, Basha coached tennis in the greater Phoenix area. His first Ace Out Hunger event was held in Chandler, Ariz. in September. “We hosted more than 90 players and raised 429 pounds of food,” he said. “We are hoping to enjoy similar results Nov.16 in Mountlake Terrace.”

Forest Crest Athletic Club is located at 4901-28th St. S.W. in Mountlake Terrace. You can find more information about the club here.
