The Regional Fire Authority Planning Committee formed by the City of Lynnwood and Snohomish County Fire District 1 will meet for the first time on Monday, Oct. 24 at 1 p.m. in the Lynnwood City Council Chambers, 19100 44th Ave. W.
The City of Lynnwood and Fire District 1 Board of Commissioners both voted to move forward with the Regional Fire Authority (RFA) earlier this month.
The committee consists of three elected officials from each municipality: Councilmember Ian Cotton, Councilmember George Hurst and Mayor Nicola Smith representing Lynnwood and Commissioners Jim Kenny, Jim McGaughey and Bob Meador representing Fire District 1. The committee is charged with developing a plan to take to voters next year to establish a RFA encompassing the City of Lynnwood and Fire District 1.
An RFA is a special purpose district created by a vote of the people to consolidate and regionalize fire and emergency services. State law provides the framework for cities, towns and fire districts to consider forming an RFA as a way to gain service efficiencies through consolidation while retaining local control.
In the coming months, the RFA Planning Committee will meet regularly to create a plan to take to the voters in Lynnwood and Fire District 1. This plan will include proposed governance, financing, operations and service levels. Public hearings are planned to get citizen input as part of the planning process.
All committee meetings are open to the public. A website has been created to keep citizens informed throughout the planning process: www.LynnwoodFD1RFA.com. Meeting schedules, agenda and minutes will be posted along with key documents and information about the RFA planning process.
