Firefighters had their hands full Sunday afternoon, dousing a house fire at 23302- 53rd Ave. W. in Mountlake Terrace. Flames could be seen rising 20 feet above the roofline before firefighters had the blaze knocked down.

“It started in the garage and involved the house a little bit,” said Snohomish County Fire District 1 Battalion Chief Jerry Sheehan. “They stopped it before it caused too much damage in the house.”

No one was home at the time of the fire; no firefighters were hurt at the scene.

The total loss of property due to the fire was unknown, although Sheehan said a motorcycle in the garage/carport was a total loss and a Volvo sedan parked in the driveway suffered some front end fire damage. There will likely be significant smoke and water damage to items throughout the 1,386-square-foot single story structure.

Crews from Fire District 1 and a medical unit from the Shoreline Fire Department responded to the blaze, which started around 3 p.m. on Sunday.
