Snohomish County Fire District 1 responded to 335 calls the week of May 24-30: 270 emergency medical aid calls, 12 motor vehicle collisions, 18 fires, 14 service calls, and 21 automatic fire alarms.

May 24
WATER RESCUE: At 11:25 p.m., firefighters responded aboard Marine 16, the fire rescue boat based in Edmonds, to rescue two boaters and a dog from a sinking sailboat north of Mukilteo. All were uninjured.

May 26
COLLISION: At 7:10 a.m., a semi-trailer rear-ended a small car on northbound I-5 north of 236th Street Southwest in Mountlake Terrace. It took firefighters about 10 minutes to free the driver from the car. Paramedics transported the injured driver Swedish/Edmonds Hospital.

May 27
COLLISION: At 1:49 p.m., a two-car collision was reported in the 16300 block of East Shore Drive east of Lynnwood. Firefighters transported one patient to Swedish/Mill Creek Emergency Room.

May 28
HOUSE FIRE:  At 4:30 a.m., a house fire was reported in the 4800 block of 242nd Street Southwest in Mountlake Terrace. The residents safely evacuated and there were no injuries. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and contained the flames to a small area of the living room. Damages are estimated at $3,500. Investigators determined the fire was started by a candle that had been left burning and ignited draperies.
BARBECUE FIRE: At 4:48 p.m., a house fire was reported in the 21900 block of Oak Way in Brier. A charcoal barbeque on an outdoor deck flared up and ignited the siding of the house. The homeowner extinguished the fire with a garden hose. Firefighters thoroughly examined the house to make sure there were no hidden hot spots in the structure.
COLLISION:  At 8:53 p.m., a two-car collision was reported at 204th Street Southwest and Poplar Way southeast of Lynnwood. Firefighters transported one patient to Swedish/Edmonds Hospital.
