Fire District 1 fire calls, week of May 18-23

Snohomish County Fire District 1 responded to 381 calls the week of May 17-23: 315 emergency medical aid calls, 28 motor vehicle collisions, 15 fires, 9 service calls, 5 natural gas leaks and 9 automatic fire alarms.

May 18
FIRE:  At 1 a.m., a house fire was reported in the 4400 block of 229th Place Southwest in Mountlake Terrace. The apparent cause of the fire was a smoldering cigarette left in a container on the porch by the front door. Damages are estimated at $20,500. After ventilation, the residents were allowed to return to their home.

May 19
COLLISION: At 2:21 a.m., a car overturned at Highway 99 and SR-525 north of Lynnwood. Firefighters transported the driver to Swedish/Edmonds Hospital.

COLLISION:  At 12:05 p.m., a truck crashed into a ditch near the intersection of 146th Street Southwest and Meadow Road east of Lynnwood. Four teens had been riding in the truck – one in the truck bed. Firefighters transported one patient to Swedish/Edmonds Hospital.

GRASS FIRE: At 1:15 p.m., firefighters extinguished several small grass fires in the median of I-5 between 196th Street Southwest and I-405 in Lynnwood.

COLLISION: At 11:32 p.m., firefighters transported one patient to Swedish/Mill Creek Emergency Room and one patient to Providence Regional Medical Center Everett after responding to a collision at 132nd Street Southeast and Seattle Hill Road east of Everett.

May 20
COLLISION: At 9:06 a.m., a small pickup truck was struck by a U-Haul truck that left the scene at 160th Street Southwest and 54th Place West north of Lynnwood. The pickup went into a ditch and struck a tree. Firefighters had to use rescue tools to free the driver from the wreckage. He was transported by medic unit to Providence Regional Medical Center Everett. The U Haul truck was found a block away and was heavily damaged. The driver of the U Haul truck was not injured.

COLLISION:  At 12:03 p.m., firefighters transported one patient to Swedish/Edmonds Hospital after responding to a collision in the 14800 block of Highway 99 north of Lynnwood.

GARAGE FIRE:  At 12:55 p.m., a garage fire was reported in the 22900 block of 54th Avenue West in Mountlake Terrace.  Firefighters extinguished the flames, ventilated the roof and forcibly entered the garage to assure the fire had not progressed inside. Fire investigators determined the fire was most likely started by an overheated extension cord plugged into an exterior outlet to power a fountain. The residents were not home at the time of the fire and there were no injuries. Damage is estimated at $25,000.

COLLISION:  At 4:50 p.m., a two-car collision was reported at the intersection of 148th Street Southwest and Manor Way north of Lynnwood. Firefighters transported one person with injuries to Swedish/Edmonds Hospital.

May 23
COLLISION:  At 2:31 p.m., a two-car collision was reported in the 13100 block of Highway 99 south of Everett.  Two patients with minor injuries were transported by firefighters to Swedish/Mill Creek Emergency Room.
