Snohomish County Fire District 1 responded to 342 calls the week of July 12-18: 257 emergency medical aid calls, 16 motor vehicle collisions, 27 fires, 10 service calls, 4 natural gas leaks, 1 hazardous materials call, 1 technical rescue and 26 automatic fire alarms.

July 13
LIGHTNING STRIKE: At 10:06 a.m., firefighters responded to the 20000 block of 88th Avenue West in Edmonds for a lightning strike to a tree. They found power lines smoking and called for PUD to respond.

July 14
COLLISION: At 6:59 a.m., firefighters took one patient to Providence Regional Medical Center Everett after responding to a collision at 112th Street Southwest and 4th Avenue West south of Everett.

July 15
APARTMENT FIRE: At 10:19 a.m., firefighters responded to a two-alarm apartment fire in the 16600 block of 6th Avenue West east of Lynnwood. Two units were damaged by fire and four other units were damaged by smoke and water. One resident received minor injuries after attempting to enter a burning apartment to see if anyone was inside. Red Cross responded to assist 10 renters displaced by the fire. Damage is estimated at more than $200,000. Investigators determined the fire was started by spontaneous combustion of towels that had been soiled with cooking oil.

JULY 16
SHED FIRE:  At 7:21 a.m., firefighters extinguished a fire in a shed attached to a house in the 900 block of 191st Street Southwest northwest of Bothell. Investigators determined the fire was started by ashes from a fire pit that had been placed inside a paper bag and stored in the shed. Damage is estimated at $1,000.

JULY 17
HAZARDOUS MATERIALS INVESTIGATION: At 11:16 a.m., firefighters responded to investigate a white powdery substance strewn about the intersection of Edmonds Street and Sunset Avenue North in Edmonds. Hazardous materials specialists were dispatched to ensure no threat was posed to the public. The substance was later identified as baking flour.

STOVE FIRE:  At 11:19 a.m., firefighters responded to a stove fire at an apartment in the 16600 block of 6th Avenue West east of Lynnwood. The fire was contained to the oven. No one was injured.

PEDESTRIAN STRUCK BY CAR:  At 2:29 p.m., a pedestrian was struck by a car at the on-ramp to southbound I-5 on 220th Street Southwest in Mountlake Terrace. Firefighters transported the teenage boy to Swedish/Edmonds Hospital.

JULY 18
COLLISION:  At 11:58 p.m., firefighters responded to a car that went 100 feet down an embankment in the 6800 block of Picnic Point Road in Lynnwood. Two of the five occupants were transported by firefighters to Providence Regional Medical Center Everett.
