Fire District 1 fire calls, Dec. 20-26

Snohomish County Fire District 1 responded to 434 calls the week of Dec. 20-26: 338 emergency medical aid calls, 37 motor vehicle collisions, 26 fires, 13 service calls, 3 gas leaks and 17 automatic fire alarms.

Dec. 20

MUD SLIDE:  At 2:33 a.m., firefighters responded to Picnic Point Road and Possession Lane south of Mukilteo where a mud slide about 50 yards wide covered the road and cut out access to about 45 homes. Firefighters notified utilities and road crews, who began clean-up efforts.
FLOODING:  Firefighters assisted residents with flooding at their homes in the 4600 block of 241st Street Southwest in Mountlake Terrace, the 3400 block of Serene Way and 2900 block of 151st Pl Southwest north of Lynnwood, and the 8900 block of 226th Place Southwest in Edmonds.

Dec. 21
COLLISION:  At 6:44 p.m., a car drove through a railing and went down an embankment in the 15300 block of Highway 99 north of Lynnwood. Two people were injured and were transported by medic unit to Harborview Medical Center.
COLLISION:  At 4:41 p.m., firefighters responded to a three-car collision at 196th Street Southwest and Filbert Road east of Lynnwood.  One person was injured and was taken by medic unit to Swedish/Edmonds Hospital.

Dec. 22
COLLISION:  At 1:08 p.m., a three-car collision was reported at 164th Street Southwest and 33rd Avenue West north of Lynnwood.  Firefighters transported one patient to Swedish/Edmonds Hospital.

Dec. 23
FIREPLACE EMBERS IGNITE BOX:  At 5:36 p.m., firefighters responded to a small fire at an apartment in the 1100 block of 128th Street Southwest south of Everett. The residents had cleaned ashes out of their fireplace and put them in a cardboard box, not realizing some embers were still hot. They became aware the box was on fire when the smoke alarm went off. Firefighters removed the smoldering box from the apartment and doused it with water.
ATTIC FIRE:  At 10:48 p.m., a neighbor reported smoke coming from the attic of a house in the 5700 block of 240th Street Southwest in Mountlake Terrace.  Firefighters extinguished a small attic fire caused by an improperly installed stovepipe. Damage is estimated at $4,000.

Dec. 25
ARSON GARBAGE CAN FIRES:  Three small fires were reported in the area of Cypress Way and Larch Way east of Lynnwood – one at 4:48 p.m. in a garbage can at the 7-Eleven store; a second at 5:02 p.m. in a garbage can next to a house in the 2400 block of Cypress Way; and a third in a garbage can at the street in front of a house in the 1800 block of Cypress Way. Damage was minimal. A suspect was arrested on Dec. 26.
COLLISION:  At 9:01 p.m., a car struck a tree in the 9300 block of 244th Street Southwest in Edmonds. Firefighters transported one patient to Harborview Medical Center.

Dec. 26
HOUSE FIRE:  At 2:55 a.m., a house fire was reported in the 20000 block of 81st Avenue West in Edmonds. Four occupants were awakened by a smoke alarm and escaped the house safely, but a dog died in the fire. It took firefighters about 20 minutes to get the fire under control. The fire is believed to have started in the area of a Christmas tree.  The home was a total loss.

COLLISION:  At 10:47 p.m., firefighters responded to a car that exited northbound I-5 at the transit-only off- ramp to the 164th Street/Ash Way Park and Ride Lot and crashed head-on into a wall at the top of the ramp at freeway speed. Three adults and one child were transported to Harborview Medical Center.
