A fire at a Mountlake Terrace home Monday afternoon caused more than $85,000 damage and displaced two adults.

A woman resident called 911 at 2:18 p.m. to report the fire at her home in the 23500 block of 56th Avenue West. β€œShe safely exited the house. Her husband was away when the fire started, but returned home shortly after the woman discovered the fire,” said Leslie Hynes, public information officer for Snohomish County Fire District 1, which provides emergency services in Mountlake Terrace.

Dark smoke was pouring out the front eaves and flames were shooting out the back of the single-story house when firefighters arrived. Fire District 1 was assisted by crews from the Lynnwood Fire Department and the Shoreline Fire Department. Firefighters had the fire under control in about 15 minutes. No one was injured.

The fire left the house uninhabitable. The couple has insurance.

Fire investigators said the cause of the fire appeared to be electrical.
