Fire at abandoned gas station at 212th/52nd

There was a fire this evening at the old abandoned gas station at 212th St SW and 52nd Ave W. MLTnews readers Mark and Sharon sent us in some photos of the fire. They arrived after it had been going for a while but other people said that fire had been shooting out of the building.

It’s worth noting that this property is not technically in the city limits. Mountlake Terrace police and Fire District 1 responded to the fire.

  1. How is 212th and 52nd not in MLT? You have to go north or west to leave MLT, or so I thought. rnrnAnyway, I’m concerned this may be an insurance fraud issue due to the ongoing cost of environmental cleanup going on there.

  3. I just drove by there. 3 or 4 police cars. The police have a bearded, homeless looking guy on his knees on the corner. A few police are looking around the building.

  4. Technically is correct that it is not MLT. 7-11, right across the street and a stone’s throw away would be MLT. I doubt it is fraud for the fire. The building is going to be torn down. I thought the tanks and soil around the tanks was taken out, so good there. The homeless-looking dude on his knees and cuffed resembled the homeless dude who burned down that building in Greenwood. I know it’s not him, obviously, but the thought came to mind. He was probably just hanging around there today and someone called the cops due to the fire.
