Snohomish County Fire District 1 responded to 429 calls May 21-27: 340 emergency medical aid calls, 26 motor vehicle collisions, 28 fires, 17 service calls and 18 automatic fire alarms.

May 22

COLLISION: At 4:08 a.m., a two-car rear-end collision was reported in the 22000 block of Highway 99 in Edmonds. Firefighters transported one patient to Swedish/Edmonds Hospital.

May 23

PORCH FIRE: At 8 a.m., firefighters responded to a porch fire in the 20400 block of 22^nd Avenue W east of Lynnwood. The fire was confined to a decorative column. No one was injured.

AUTO SHOP FIRE: At 10:17 a.m., firefighters responded to a fire in an auto shop in the 20900 block of 70^th Avenue W in Edmonds. Investigators determined slag from welding ignited an oily broom and spread to the outside of an oil tank and transmission fluid drum. Workers used three fire extinguishers to put out the fire before firefighters arrived. Firefighters checked for extension and monitored the temperature of the oil drums to make sure the fire didn’t flare up again. No injuries were reported.

May 24

BEDROOM FIRE: At 2:09 a.m., firefighters extinguished a fire in the bedroom of home in the 24000 block of 49^th Place W in Mountlake Terrace. The occupants evacuated the premises as the smoke filled the house. No one was injured.

May 25

COLLISION: At 8:28 a.m., a two-car collision was reported on northbound 525 at Highway 99 north of Lynnwood.  Firefighters transported one patient to Swedish/Edmonds Hospital.

May 26

HOUSE FIRE: At 3:39 p.m., a house fire was reported in the 700 block of 12^thAvenue N in Edmonds. Firefighters kept the fire from spreading beyond a kitchenette in the basement. Damage is estimated at $100,000. A couple safely evacuated, but their cat died in the fire. Investigators determined the cause of the fire was electrical.

May 27

RECYCLING BIN FIRE: At 2:00 a.m., firefighters extinguished a small fire in recycling bins next to the restrooms at Martha Lake Community Park.

DUMPSTER AND FENCE FIRE: At 5:01 a.m., a fire in a dumpster was reported in the 12100 block of 4^th Avenue W south of Everett. The fire spread to a fence before it was extinguished by firefighters. No one was injured.

COLLISION:  At 3:02 p.m., a multiple vehicle collision involving a school bus was reported at 220^th Street SW and 44^th Avenue W in Mountlake Terrace. The bus was occupied by less than five students. Firefighters transported one patient to Swedish/Edmonds Hospital.

ADULT FAMILY HOME FIRE:  At 8:42 p.m., a fire was reported in an adult family home in the 5200 block of 131^st Street SE north of Mill Creek. Two caregivers and five residents evacuated safely. Flames were through the roof when firefighters arrived. Firefighters quickly brought the fire under control and damage was contained to the bathroom and the attic and roof directly above. There was smoke damage throughout the house.  Damage is estimated at $100,000. Investigators believe the fire started in the bathroom exhaust fan. No one was injured.
