“It sounded like dynamite going off” is how a neighbor of Chuck Long and Erik Carlson of Mountlake Terrace described the sound of a giant tree branch crashing down  on the 5400 block of 228th Street Southwest Tuesday night.

The 10-inch-diameter, 20-foot-long pine tree branch fell around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, knocking out power to the block and landing on Long’s Chevy crew cab pickup truck that was sitting in the driveway.

Mountlake Terrace police responded “within five minutes,” Long said, while Snohomish County PUD had power restored to the neighborhood within a few hours. Long and Carlson spend Wednesday morning cutting up the branch and assessing the damage to the truck, describe as “a total loss.”
