Regular drivers of 228th Street Souhwest and 44th Avenue West/Cedar Way can expect to face delays as construction is scheduled to begin this week on replacement of water mains, storm water pipes, catch basins and fire hydrants in the area.
The project includes installation of 6,200 feet of 6-inch, 8-inch and 12-inch-diameter water mains, 400 feet of 8-inch, 12-inch and 15-inch diameter storm water pipes, and various other street improvements. Work is expected to begin on 228th Street Southwest between 39th and 44th Avenue West, with the project extending to 39th Avenue West north to 226th Place, and on to 44th Avenue West/Cedar Way from 226th Place West south to Markland Woods.
Buno Construction of Snohomish is the contractor for the $1.2 million project, beating out 12 other construction companies in the bidding process. The work is being paid for by the city’s water and stormwater funds.
Construction is expected to be finished by late spring. Following completion of the water main and pipe replacements, the streets will be repaved and given new lane configurements that will include bicycle and center left turn lanes. That work is expected to take place this summer.
