Mountlake Terrace Senior Center President Seaun Richards welcomes new Executive Director Mike Cooper.

Former Edmonds Mayor Mike Cooper is the new Executive Director of the Mountlake Terrace Senior Center. The senior center’s board made the appointment official last week.

“I am looking forward to this new chapter in my life with great excitement and anticipation,” Cooper said. “The Senior Center in Terrace is small, but has a plan for growth. The Board is committed to a great future. With 20 percent of the community’s population over the age of 55, we have an exciting chance to serve.”

With Cooper at the helm, the senior center is hoping to expand its service and programs, market itself to the Baby Boomer generation, and get involved with fundraising and grant-seeking.

Cooper was appointed to the Edmonds Mayor position in July 2010 but did not retain his seat the following year. “Since I left office as Mayor of Edmonds in November of 2011, I have struggled with what to do next, sending resume’s far and wide looking for just the right fit,” Cooper said.

Cooper’s resume includes time as a member of the Snohomish County Council and a four-term State Representative in Olympia. Cooper also had a career spanning more than 25 years in the Shoreline Fire Department.

The Mountlake Terrace Senior Center is located at 5605-235th St. S.W. in Mountlake Terrace.
