The Cedar Way PTO has been busy working to raise funds for a new playground at the Elementary school. Recently they fond out that they will be getting the play equipment from Evergreen Elementary, which is scheduled to be demolished this month. They have also recieved a $4,000 grant to go towards the purchase of new equipment.
Here’s the new from Cedar Way PTO:
First, we will soon be getting the large play structure from Evergreen Elementary! This will add slides, climbing areas, an outdoor “kitchen” area, and more fun to our current playground. The District is going to fund the majority of the cost to relocate the structure, but has asked the PTO to sponsor “work parties” for the supervised dissassembly and re-assembly of the structure. The committee is in contact with the district and should be hearing soon when the timing of this will take place. Most likely, we will be looking for volunteers two Saturdays this fall. This will be so exciting! We can’t wait to have this “new” play space in here. The structure is only a few years old, so will be a great addition to our playground as we work to raise funds for the replacement of the other 50-year old equipment!
Second, we have just received a $4,000 grant from the Hubbard Foundation to go towards the purchase of our new playground equipment! This brings our total funds to approximately $24,000!! Special thanks to PTO Co-President Molly Luna and Principal Hawk Cramer for putting our project before the Foundation.
We still have a long way to go towards our $75,000 goal. The playground committee has been moving forward with other fundraising and grant ideas.
Thanks for the shout out MLTNews! We’ve had great news – but we still have more hard work to do! We our only getting one play structure from Evergreen. It will be a great addition but we have many more pieces to replace, as well as other playground improvements planned. We will be having a work party to help dis-assemble/re-assemble the Evergreen structure. Anyone interested in helping with time or $$ can contact the PTO at CedarWayPTO@yahoo.com. Thanks! ~Molly Luna
A lot of parents from Evergreen helped put that all together when it was installed. You should get in touch with their old PTA President &/or VP & ask for their assistance in dismantling & reinstalling. It may give some closure to all the parents that had worked so hard to get Evergreen the new play structures only to hear the school would be closed a couple of years later. Plus their experience may be useful. Just a thought.
