Waste Warriors Training Series

$25Do you ever find yourself standing at the recycling bin wondering what can and can’t be recycled, and WHY? Curious about climate change and how your individual actions can make a difference? Wondering how you can get more engaged in your local community? Get answers to these questions and more by becoming a WSU Sustainable Community Steward or WSU Waste Warrior. Training begins this Fall!
By enrolling, you receive university-level training grounded in climate change science relevant both within Snohomish County and globally. Both trainings are designed to help you become an informed community educator, preparing you for your volunteer commitment of 20-40 hours. A combination of engaging classroom presentations and discussions paired with l behind-the-scenes field trips make this an excellent educational and community engagement opportunity.
The trainings are on Wednesdays, 6 – 9 PM, at WSU Snohomish County Extension/Willis Tucker Park Activity Center 6705 Puget Park Dr, Snohomish, WA 98296. Dates are: 5/3, 5/10, 5/17, 5/24, and 5/31. Optional but HIGHLY ENCOURAGED field tour of Cedar Grove on Friday, May 12th. There will be speakers from: Everett Community College, WSU Snohomish and Clallam County Extension, Green Snohomish, Republic Services, and Zero-Waste Washington. Some of the class activities include: recycling relay and online game, green cleaning workshop, dyeing fabrics with natural dye made from food scraps, and consciousness-raising discussions.
At the end of the training you will be an official WSU Waste Warrior that volunteers at WSU events and other sustainability events/projects in Snohomish County, able to educate other community members, and practice sustainability in your own life.
