With Trung Banh and Syd Springberg leading the way, the Mountlake Terrace High School wrestling team will be sending eight competitors and one alternative to the Region 1 3A Wrestling Tournament following the results from the 3A Wesco South district tourney this past Friday and Saturday at Glacier Peak High School.

Bahn won the 106-lb. weight class with a 10-2 decision over Glacier Peak’s Mats Haneberg in the finals. Springberg came out on top of the 170-lb. class by pinning Griffin Thomas of Glacier Peak in his final.

Other Hawk wrestlers who qualified for regionals are Taron Castleton, second place in 132-lb. class; Brett Potter, second place in the 195-lb. class; Taylor Hetherington, third place in the 120-lb. class; Shawn Poole in the 160-lb. class; Tim Zuehl, third place in the 182-lb. class; and Taylor Murgallis, third place in the 220-lb. class. With his fourth place finish, Daniil Oliferovskiy becomes an alternate in the 138-lb. class.

Hawks Teodor Aleksandrov, David Marrs and Colin Loyles placed fifth in their respective weight classes at sub-regionals, with Eric Breznen picking up a sixth-place finish.

Kaleb Davis, a third seed in the 285 weight class, had to withdrawal from the tournament, suffering a dislocated left elbow in his first match on Friday.

Terrace wrestlers Marqueta Johnson and Kami Roberts competed in the Region 1, Sub-Regional 2 Girls Tournament at Nathan Hale High School on Friday and Saturday. Roberts picked up a sixth-place finish, while Johnson has one more match, to be wrestled at Sedro-Woolley on Saturday, Feb. 9, for fifth place.
