Edmonds School District to offer new broadcast sports class next year

Love sports? Interested in learning more about what it takes to be a sports announcer, video engineer or camera operator for sporting events? Students attending any Edmonds School District high school are invited to enroll in a new Broadcast Field Production class being offered during the 2013-14 school year.

During this class, students will not only have a chance to acquire skills in broadcast sports reporting and live sports announcing, but learn what it takes to produce professional quality sports programs, including:

– Pre-game shows

– Live sporting events

– Half-time shows

– Post-game shows

Students will practice principles of broadcast field production, video engineering and live video Internet streaming. They will also create still and moving graphics and edit sports packages for inclusion in the live broadcasts.

The class will work with school and community sports teams and develop a schedule of events to be covered. Students will be required to be present at events as members of the class production crew.

The class meets on Monday and Wednesday from 2:15-3:15 p.m. at Mountlake Terrace High School, plus three hours each week for field production work at a district sporting or special event.  District transportation is not provided for this class.
