Edmonds School District parents who missed the review night for the district’s reproductive health and disease prevention program can see the curriculum overview and timelines online.
The school district uses the KNOW program to teach students about HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted diseases and their prevention. The Family Life and Sexual Health program’s instruction is focused on the reproductive system, growth and development and conception. Both programs are based on medically accurate, developmentally appropriate information and are state-approved instructional materials.
Here’s the timeline for implementation:
2016-17: District will do an analysis of the new standards, the gaps and the needs in order to move forward. Recommendation to the Edmonds School Board – spring 2107.
2017-18: District will do a curriculum review process and prepare a recommendation to the school board, staff and community – spring 2018.
2018-19: District will have a full implementation of the new health and physical education standards and curriculum.
