Edmonds School District offering summer school music, academic programs

Edmonds School DistrictThe Edmonds School District is offering three distinct summer school programs during between late June and mid-August, including Summer Music School to be held at Mountlake Terrace High School.

Summer Music School

Summer Music School, for students entering grades 6-12, will run from June 23 to July 11. Other summer school options are the Secondary Summer School July 7 through July 31 at Meadowdale High School and the Summer Math Program July 7 through Aug. 14 at four different district sites.

Summer Music School, often called Summer Music Camp, will provide students the opportunity to participate in concert band or orchestra, concert choir, vocal or instrumental jazz and ensembles, and various exploratory electives in learning different musical instruments, music theory or composition, drama and art. All participants will also play in an evening concert and take a field trip to the Experience Music Project in Seattle.

Secondary Summer School

Secondary Summer School offers more than two dozen classes for students exiting grades 7-12 in math, English, social studies, physical education, special education and English Language Learners. Students can register for summer classes at any district high school or middle school, or by mail; tuition cost is $350 for the ½ credit physical education class, $250 for each half-credit high school course and $175 for each middle school course.

District high school students also have the option to take some summer school classes online through the Edmonds School District eLearning Program. Tuition for online courses is $200 per class.

Summer Math Program

The Edmonds School District is hosting a free Summer Music Program to help students in grades 3 and higher receive tutoring in math up to Algebra 2 beginning July 7. Volunteers will be on-hand at four different district sites Monday-Thursday for six weeks to assist students practice various math concepts. Two tutoring sessions will be offered each day, 9-11:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m., with a free lunch included for all participants from 11 a.m.- noon.

The Summer Math Program will take place July 7-Aug. 14 at Alderwood Middle School, Cedar Valley Community School, Meadowdale High School and Edmonds-Woodway High School. Registration is done electronically here.
