Five picnic tables at Brier Park were upgraded on Saturday after Eagle Scout candidate Derek DeLizo led a work crew in replacing old benches and table tops.
DeLizo, a member of Boy Scout Association Troop #312 and a junior at Mountlake Terrace High School, coordinated the work as part of his efforts to gain Eagle Scout status with the Boy Scouts organization. His volunteer crew consisted of fellow scout members, friends and neighbors.
All materials for the work were donated to the effort, including the coffee and donuts essential for perking up the crew for the 9:00 a.m. start.
βThe Boy Scout troop is in Edmonds, but Derek wanted to do something here in Brier Park,β explained mom Cathy DeLizo. She said the family has spent lots of time at the park as they live just north of the city limits in unincorporated Snohomish County.
In addition to his involvement with scouting, DeLizo attends Running Start classes at Edmonds Community College and works as a lifeguard at the Mountlake Terrace Recreation Pavilion pool. His future goals include a possible career in biochemistry or bioengineering.
