Eagle Scout candidate Mike Green is finishing up his project to restore and move the fire truck playing apparatus at Firefighters Memorial Park in Mountlake Terrace this week.
“It’s taken me a long, long time to get this project done,” Green said earlier this week. Green has spent much of the summer working on the apparatus, first cutting it out of the concrete posts it had been secured to, sanding and painting it, welding on new legs and, finally, preparing it for placement near the front of the newly reconfigured park. Green hopes to have the play equipment in place by the end of the week.
Firefighters Memorial Park, 3900-228th Street SW, has been undergoing changes after Fire District 1 Station 18, which used to sit directly in from of the park, was razed in April. A recent meeting of area residents suggested adding restrooms, walking paths, a dog station with waste container, additional playground equipment, picnic tables and benches to the park. The city’s Recreation and Parks Advisory Commission will be discussing further ideas for the park at its next meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 9, 7:00 p.m. at the Recreation Pavilion, 5303-228th Street SW.
City officials hope to formally reopen the park to the public later this month.
