Dog training and first aid classes coming to Recreation Pavilion

The Mountlake Terrace Recreation and Parks Department is offering several Dog Training and First Aid Classes at the Recreation Pavilion in March.

Basic Dog Obedience, for dogs 5 months and older, teaches basic skills including walking on a leash, sit, down, stand and stay. The instructor will address questions and discuss behavior problems and appropriate equipment.  This class will meet every Monday from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. March 2 through April 12. Fees are $85 for Mountlake Terrace residents and $90 for non-residents.

Intermediate Obedience is for dogs that have completed a basic obedience class. Participants will continue to build on the skills learned in basic obedience. This class meets Wednesdays from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. March 4 through April 1. Fees are $80 for Mountlake Terrace residents and $85 for non-residents.

Puppygarten is for puppies between 8 and 16 weeks old. This class works on socialization and basic obedience including sit, down, come and walking on a leash. This class will meet on Thursdays from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. March 5 through April 9. Fees are $80 for Mountlake Terrace residents and $85 for non-residents.

Dog First Aid/CPR is a one-time class that teaches how to be prepared for emergencies involving a dog. It includes information that will teach you to protect yourself and the animal from further harm.  This is an American Red Cross course taught by Caren Malgesini, CPDT and the instructor for Mountlake Terrace dog obedience classes. Participants will have the opportunity to practice on a canine manikin and will receive a manual and DVD at the course. This class will meet Saturday, March 14 at the Recreation Pavilion from 9:30 a.m. until noon.  Fees are $48 for Mountlake Terrace residents and $53 for non-residents.
