Mountlake Terrace High School seniors McKenzie Creagan and Gabe Brady have been selected to be the student athletes profiled in the September 2014 edition of Athlete Highlights, a publication of the school’s Sports Booster Club.

Creagan is a member of the Mountlake Terrace cheer squad; Brady plays on the Hawks varsity football team.

“I nominate McKenzie Creagan for the Athlete Highlight; she is quiet, but a strong addition to our squad,” said cheer squad coach Jessica Bos. “McKenzie has put a lot of time and hard work to improve her skills as a cheerleader, and I am thankful to have her as a part of the team. She can take directions and constructive criticism with a smile on her face and a positive attitude every time.”

“McKenzie is one of those athletes every coach wishes they had,” Bos added. “She respects others and pushes herself to be the best! I can’t wait to see her in action through competition season.”

Tony Umayam, coach of the football team, had glowing things to say about his nominee for the Athlete Highlights publication. “Gabe has been a four-year player in our program and a highly valued member of the team at the freshman, JV and last year on the varsity level. He is hard-working, dependable and coachable”.

“Gabe played wide receiver as a junior last season and will be expected to contribute on defense this year as a starting linebacker,” Umayam said.

Both Creagan and Brady are expected to be in action on Friday, Sept. 5, as the Hawks travel to Goddard Stadium in south Everett to open their prep football season against Mariner. Game time is 7 p.m.

This is the third year that the MTHS Sports Booster Club has sponsored the Athlete Highlights, a platform for the school’s 17 athletic team coaches to recognize athletes who excel on and off the field. Each month two student athletes are highlighted on framed posters displayed around Mountlake Terrace.

Local businesses that would like to participate in the program can contact Tara Zuehl, Sports Booster Club chairperson, at MTHSBCBoard@edmonds.wednet.edu.
