COVID-19 daily report — including new by-city count — for Mountlake Terrace and Snohomish County: March 18, 2020

Readers asked for it and we created it: a chart showing the change in COVID-19 cases over time in Snohomish County.

Publisher’s note: We have created this ongoing report on information related to COVID-19 as it applies to our communities. It will be updated regularly to reflect changing information.

Snohomish Health District update

In addition to providing daily countywide numbers of COVID-19 cases as noted in our chart above, the health district website on Wednesday included the following chart of cases by city. Lynnwood had 41 cases as of March 18 while Edmonds had 21 and Mountlake Terrace had nine. Brier and Woodway each had fewer than five cases.

Stay home to conserve health care resources

We have a worldwide shortage of the masks, gowns, and gloves that keep health care safe for us and for our health care providers. We are also facing a crisis in which we may not have enough space in our hospitals, nor lifesaving equipment like ventilators available for people who need them.

Postpone many routine medical visits

We are asking all health care facilities to cancel or postpone visits that can be postponed. This will help keep us home and help conserve masks, gowns, and gloves.

  • Please postpone your routine dental visits, adult annual exams, and routine screenings. If you are not sure whether your upcoming appointment can be postponed or perhaps done over the phone, call the clinic to check before you go. If you are having a dental emergency (like you are in pain) please go to your regular dental clinic, not an emergency room.
  • Don’t postpone well child checks.
  • And remember to reschedule those important wellness visits when this crisis is over!

Stay home as much as possible

We all need to stay home as much as possible to protect people at high risk from getting sick. Because if too many of us get too sick, we may have more patients who desperately need ventilators than we have ventilators to go around. We are working with our partners in the health care system to come up with a plan if we find ourselves in this situation, but a lot of that plan is dependent on us staying home and keeping our neighbors safe.

Practice compassion

We are all feeling a bit unsettled with these disruptions to normal life. Remember, even if you are isolated right now, you are not alone!

  1. Thank you for the list of cities. This is the first I’ve seen of our city’s numbers. It helps me to be aware and make decisions.

  2. Nice graph, thank you. May I suggest using 4 different colors, so not using two shades of blue? That could confuse some people.
